Another silly error from Microsoft.
Yesterday I tried to install On-premises Data Gateway on a new server. .net Framework 4.6 was already installed. Setup asked me to update .net version to newest one and I did. Then I installed On-premises Data Gateway. But by mistake I didn’t choose region as West Europe and it got South UK as default.
There isn’t any way to change it except uninstall and and install again with correct configuration. So I tried.
Unfortunately to figure out that .net 4.8 is the reason, take long for me.
Uninstall didn’t work. It just hanged. There isn’t any guide on Microsofts site. They only suggested restart VM on one blog. After half day investigation , I uninstalled .net 4.8. Its not in add remove programs list like previous versions. Its in the windows update list.
Then I installed .net 4.7.2 . After that uninstall worked.
This may be obvious for you, but it took my half day to figure out. Customer pays, but why? Am I a volunteer or free worker for them? I know, I have to get along them. But why?
So, the key point: Don’t trust Microsoft on releases.
